Rock Show 2: Rock 'n' Roll Photography

July 18 — August 23 2009

Featuring:

Composition Gallery is proud to present Rockshow 2: Rock 'n' Roll Photography by Perry Julien and Annette Brown. Both photographers will be present at an opening reception for the exhibition on Saturday July 18th 2009, from 7 to 10pm, followed by live music from ILL. Beer provided by Bell's Brewery.

Rockshow at Composition Gallery during the Summer of 2007 was one of our most successful and popular exhibits, principally due to the participation of photographer Frank Mullen, who passed away on  May 9th, 2009. Frank was much loved and respected and we wish to express our condolences and thanks for his contribution to our gallery and to Atlanta's artistic community. To honor Frank's dedication to the art of photography, a portion of the gallery's commission from Rockshow 2 will be donated to Kids with Cameras, a non-profit organization that teaches photography to marginalized children in communities around the world.

Perry Julien's passion for music and photography came together for the first time as a teenager photographing Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden. He is now approaching his 1000th show behind the lens. Many of these concerts were photographed at music venues in and around Atlanta. His photographs can be seen in Creative Loafing as well as Stomp and Stammer, where he serves as contributing music photographer. When not photographing live music, he is often photographing TO music, focusing on intriguing people and shooting alternative fashion. This work reflects a creative interaction between Perry and the people he photographs. He is continually seeking  to push the boundaries of his photography and to explore new ways of capturing unique and compelling images.

Atlanta-based photographer Annette Brown has photographed musicians from all genres, as well as actors, authors, and various other performers and entertainers. Annette has traveled all over the United States documenting musicians, photographing live performances, and serving as still photographer on film and video shoots. Her vivid, evocative images have appeared in Rolling Stone, Vogue, Vibe, Blender, and Vintage Guitar magazines and have been featured on MTV, VH1, BET, and CNN's Larry King Live. Her most recent exhibition was at the Mobile Museum of Art, where her photographs were displayed alongside works by Linda McCartney and Ansel Adams. Her work is currently on display at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
